Why is there a challenge?

The Spangler Strong Challenge stems from my love of fitness and experience with cancer. I have been on both ends of the spectrum. I used to be into weightlifting in high school, with personal records in squat, 405 lbs., bench, 265 lbs., and clean, 265 lbs. I have also had my strength sapped to a point of not being able to lift more than 25 lb. dumbbells. My love of fitness is also encouraged by my duty to the Army, as I have to be fit to protect and serve my country. Fitness is an important piece in life that encourages health habits to help combat heart disease , cancer, and neurological diseases.

What is the Challenge

The Spangler Strong Challenge is a weightlifting competition for everyone. This competition is not just for people who weight lift, but to anyone who wants a change in their lives. This is a challenge to encourage the newcomer and the experience lifter. The process to join is simple, and it comes in the form of a donation. The money will be going to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research to find life saving medicine. Amoney donated will register you as an official competitor. The main metric being tracked is percentage increase in weight lifted. This provides an even competition across the board without encouraging reckless heavy weight lifting. You are your own competition, and you have the chance to compete against others. The goal is to not only encourage fitness goals but to raise money for cancer research. Official rules will be available under the resources tab.

Anyone is free to use the non-competition resources on this website to guide themselves, but a donation is required to post on the forum and other goodies. The people who do donate are registered to receive a small souvenir at the end of the competition

When does the challenge begin?

The challenge will have two sessions, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring session begins on May 1st and the fall session begins on September 1st. May is the National Cancer Research month, which is what the money goes towards. September marks the Blood Cancer, Leukemia and Lymphoma, Awareness Month. The run time of each competition is the standard 12 weeks listed in the rules.
